Sustainable Destination Development Seminar brought insights into sustainable tourism

Sustainable Destination Development Seminar gathered top tourism researchers to the University of Lapland on Thursday 10th October 2013. The seminar was part of MTI’s cross-selectable Sustainable Rural and Urban Tourism studies and Destination Management studies, and event for MTI’s alumnus students.

Steve Noakes spoke on his presentation “Applying ecotourism for biodiversity conservation and destination management” how ecotourism can be applied for biodiversity conservation and the Indonesian approach to sustainable management of destinations. Presentation: SteveNoakes_ApplyingEcotourism .pdf

The presentation of Dr. Greg Halseth “Linking tourism and destination management with place-based community development” draw upon examples from British Columbia, Canada, to highlight how tourism and destination management can support place-based community development.
