Interesting visitors at MTI from Hokkaido University

Heritage conservation and poverty reduction through tourism. A course available for all students of MTI.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kiho Yaoita from Center for Advanced Tourism Studies, Hokkaido University, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Akiko Tashiro will be visiting University of Lapland and MTI in next March (21-23.3.2016).

Together with Prof. Daniela Tommasini they will give a course on the Topic of "Heritage conservation and poverty reduction through tourism" (2 ECTs). In this course, concept and actual methods of heritage conservation and poverty reduction in developing countries will be discussed.

On Monday 21st Prof. Kiho Yaoita will give the lectures on different topics. On Tuesday 22nd the program consists Prof. Kiho Yaoita’s briefing to the Phenology Calendar, in the afternoon will take place the Workshop, where students work on their own calendars. On Wednesday 23rd there will be the Symposium, where the students’ presentations and lectures’ views and comments will take place.

The aim of the course is to understand the basic concept of “Community based Tourism”, ecomuseum and phenology calendar. In addition to that, the aim is to get understanding about concept of strategic carrying capacity and the framework of public private partnership.

Registration and more detailed information (schedule and content) soon in WebOodi. The course is available for all students of MTI and the University of Lapland. The course will be held in English.
