A PhD-seminar of the 20th Nordic Symposium in Tourism and Hospitality Research

The Finnish University Network for Tourism Studies (FUNTS) invites international PhD students to attend the Nordic Doctoral School in Tourism and Hospitality Research at Rovaniemi in September 2011. The topic of the PhD seminar is Conducting a Doctoral Dissertation in the Field of Tourism Research (3−5 ECTS). The theme enables postgraduate students from different fields of multidisciplinary tourism research to attend the school. The students will be able to bring to discussion the bottlenecks of their research work to receive feedback from recognized tourism researchers as well as international PhD –students. Lectures on methodology, as well as on the questions of the publishing procedures and codes of conduct will be given by international experts in tourism research. The small groups will support an individual approach to each researcher’s questions and contemplation.

From each participant we wish to hear a 20 minutes presenttion and a paper (10−15 pages) on the study plan with a special attention to the problems faced with the reseach work. Presentations and papers will be siscussed in theme based groups. The total time available for each student is 45 minutes. Additional participants without own presentations will be welcomed as well. The ECTS-credits will require the completion of given excersises (3 ECTS) and include the presentation of a research plan (2 ECTS).
 
Important Dates: An abstract of 300−500 words as rtf.format should be sent by May 31, 2011 by e-mail to mavytoimisto@uef.fi. Please, also give the information on the amounts of credits you would like to complete. In order to ensure the individual feedback, additional advisors will be invited as soon as the topics are known. Full presentations must be ready by August 31th, 2011.

Costs and arrangements: The PhD course is free of charge. Each participant pays one’s own accommodation and meals. Maximum of twenty PhD Students can attend the course and maximum of four parallel sessions on the basis of abstracts will be held. The course is a part of FUNTS Doctoral School Programme, which ensures the arranging.
