Tourism on three academic levels

At the Multidimensional Tourism Institute (MTI), we educate tourism experts on three levels – university, university of applied sciences and vocational. We are the only institution in Finland that gives its students the chance to put together their qualification from tourism studies taken in a range of institutions and degree programmes.

The student body at MTI encompasses

  • Students majoring in tourism research at the University of Lapland (ULap)
  • Students of tourism and catering at the Lapland University of Applied Sciences (tourism, hotel and catering services) (Lapland UAS)
  • Students at Lapland Tourism College (LTC )

All of our degree programmes have their specific sets of objectives, and upon graduation students always receive the chosen qualification of their home institution. With the cooperation we arrange between the vocational and higher levels, we are able to offer our students a broader range of course offerings than competing schools, solid contacts with working life and access to a source of cutting-edge research in the field. We offer further education in addition to degree programmes.

Do not miss the forest for the trees!

In addition to completing the courses offered at their home institutions, students can incorporate joint studies from MTI into their degrees. MTI arranges these either in cooperation with the other schools that make up MTI or by making the courses available to other MTI students.

In joint courses and practices with tourism students from other schools, you experience the full spectrum of professions in the field. The similarities and differences in know-how will become apparent from the very beginning of your studies. This will give you, even before you graduate, the big picture – just how broad and diverse a field tourism is. Likewise, before you go out into working life you will have a chance to build up networks and get to know your future colleagues in the tourism sector.
